State Of Mind
The day grew dark and
the wind changed direction.
The harvest moon was stricken from the sky.
His heart was parked at the main intersection;
Where the road you choose meets the streets of good-bye.
He struck a match and
lit his last lone Lucky.
The flash of light flickered and danced in his eyes.
He caught a glimpse of the rut he'd been stuck in.
And reflected on his worn out disguise.
The strain and strife
that came with his tragic life
Made him fight to sever the ties that bind.
It gave him some hope that at the end of his rope just across
the county line
There was a brighter state of mind.
There was a brighter.....state of mind.
It's the little things
that are almost too small to mention
That pile up to be a hundred stories high.
When you get too close you don't pay much attention.
You don't take a shot 'till you see the whites of their lies.
He took a drag and
then he rolled down the window.
He tossed the butt into the lost and never found.
The tender spark turned a raging inferno
That burned his memories straight down to the ground.
The smoke and flames
rose up and carried away his name
To leave no trace of his life and times.
It gave him some hope that at the end of his rope just across
the county line
There was a brighter state of mind.
There was a brighter.....state of mind.
He shed disorder as
he finally reached the border
And dropped the weight of a place unkind.
Held onto the hope. Now at the end of his rope, he'd seen the
light on the other side.
And it was a brighter state of mind.
It was a brighter....state of mind.
